Fashion: A Tribute To Kenneth Paul Block
Labels: art, fashion 0 comments1925-2009
On April 23, 2009 the fashion industry lost arguable one the greatest fashion illustators of the twentieth century: Kenneth Paul Block. According to Kenneth,"It was never fashion I was interested in; what I wanted was to draw beautiful women in beautiful clothes" and so he did--with certain qualms from family and colleagues alike. Following his graduation at Parsons in 1945, he then joined WWD and W for about forty years(due to the popularity of fashion photography.) He also created numerous sketches for Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, Bonwit Teller, Yves Saint Laurent, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, Givenchy, and Balenciaga (despite some controversy). Having drawn since he could hold a pencil, Block proved that persistence prevailed(though he wasn't sure quite where his came from.
